Description
As part of St. John’s Episcopal Church’s Shelter from the Storm grant, the church is hosting a community speaker series exploring the barriers that prevent people from accessing stable housing and ways our community can respond with greater understanding and support.
Join us for a conversation with Dr. Andy Hansen, Professor of Criminology & Criminal Justice at Western Carolina University. Dr. Hansen will explore the impact of incarceration, the criminalization of poverty, and other factors that can create barriers to stable housing.
This event is part of an ongoing series of conversations designed to help our community listen, learn, and better understand the challenges surrounding housing access in Sylva and Jackson County.
Sunday, August 16, 9:30–10:30 a.m. at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 18 Jackson St., Sylva. All are welcome.
Please RSVP through the event page so we can prepare the appropriate space. The group will meet in the Choir Room if attendance is smaller and in the Parish Hall if a larger gathering is expected.
