Phi Mu Alpha's annual American Music Recital features young American composer Luke Blackburn in a "virtual" recital. The audience may participate by Zoom if unable to attend in person.
Blackburn's compositions often reflect his profound interest in the natural world in a genre of composition sometimes known as "ecomusic." The composer will give a brief history of "ecomusic" before presenting several of his compositions.
As a high school student from Brevard, NC, Blackburn studied bassoon with Dr. Will Peebles, then earned his bachelor's degree in music from the University of Florida, and is now completing a doctorate in Composition at Brandeis University. He has had several commissions for chamber music and orchestral compositions.
