How to Start a Business- May 23rd 5:30-8:30
The Small Business Center of Southwestern Community College will offer a free seminar entitled, “How
to Start a Business” on Thursday, May 23rd, from 5:30pm – 8:30pm on the SCC Jackson Campus in the
Founder’s Hall Room 117.
No one starts a business to have the life drained out of them, but it happens way too often. Your first
year in business is make-or-break time. It can be a time of excitement, confusion and turmoil. Starting
off on the right foot can create the foundation for a lasting, profitable business. This is a "soup-to-nuts"
seminar that covers all the important issues you need to consider when starting your business:
• Identify the personal qualities and skills needed to be a successful entrepreneur,
• Discuss the different forms of legal structures for business enterprises,
• Evaluate their ability to be successful entrepreneurs,
• Understand the types of licensing or permits needed for their business,
• Discuss topics such as trademarks, copyrights, patents, insurance, financing, record keeping and
Taxes that may be needed for their business,
• Create a list of strengths and weaknesses for your community, and
• Evaluate the community’s opportunities and threats.
This class is not to be missed by any interested entrepreneurs. Dean Kanipe is the presenter
